Week one quarantine in the books, and it was honestly so good! We've gotten to talk with members over whatsapp (practicing our Canto and sharing spiritual thoughts) and others through our English Conversation Groups (ECG)! It's hard to feel lonely, even if I'm all by my lonesome hehe.
My comp Sister Flitton is also a lifesaver! I love getting to talk with her over messenger video call about the gospel, terrible quarantine food, family, and much more. She has been such a light for me here!
I've tried a lot of new things since being in quarantine! For one, I've never done my laundry by hand before so that was exciting. Felt great going back to my pioneer roots paying homage to the ancestors I've also been able to study the scriptures a ton and record my thoughts/experiences in a book our mission president is having us write. He, being a published and renowned author himself here in Hong Kong, thought it would be great for us to have our own means to write a book while here in quarantine. It's been a great way to spend time and reflect on the opportunities I have here at Penny's Bay. I've also been able to study Canto a ton, and actually being here in Hong Kong has really skyrocketed my motivation to study. There's still a lot to learn, but I'm taking it day by day.
We had a devotional last night over Zoom for all the quarantined missionaries in Hong Kong, and I loved it! The spirit really reaffirmed to me that The Book of Mormon is the word of God and can truly bring us closer to Jesus Christ, and as a result, bring our lives greater peace and Joy. One of my favorite scriptures from The Book of Mormon is in Helaman chapter 5. In this chapter, two missionaries named Nephi and Lehi are reflecting on the words of their father Helaman which were (verse 12): "And now my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Chist, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall"
Christ truly is a sure foundation. He's given me strength in difficult times, joy in uncomfortable and hard circumstances, and peace in knowing I don't have to wallow in my mistakes. I want to invite you all to read chapter 11 of 3 Nephi in The Book of Mormon, and when you do, email me and let me know your thoughts/questions! This is the culminating point of The Book of Mormon where Christ visits the people of Ancient America after rising from the grave the third day after His death. The Book of Mormon was truly written by ancient prophets of God, and because of that it can help us draw closer to Him. I know that as you read this chapter you will be able to learn more about how deep Christ's love is, and you'll be able to feel it and recognize it more in your life. Drawing closer to Christ WILL bring you more peace and comfort.
Much love to you all! I love hearing from you and I feel your support and prayers.
Have a lovely week! Make it count
